This website is the companion site for the Matching Brackets YouTube Channel. Where the goal is simple, to make Linux and open source software easier for everybody to understand.

Linux can sometimes feel intimidating when you're first starting out. There are many distributions, endless choices, and plenty of technical explanations that will make your head spin.

Matching Brackets takes a different path.

Here, you'll find practical information, walkthroughs, and explanations designed for everyday computer users. Whether you're completely new to Linux, thinking about making the switch, or just curious about how things work, the goal is to help everyone in a language that everyone can understand. As long as you speak English, that is.

Why "Matching Brackets"?

The name comes from a small but important idea in programming. When writing your code, you always have to make sure that when you open one bracket, that you close the statement with the closing Matching Bracket.

For example, "For the sake of this example, let's pretend that this is some code that does something important). Well, because I didn't match the bracket with a closing pair of quotes, that important part of my code is just simly not going to work until I correct it.

I hope that example makes a little sense. In my experience, you can almost take the idea of unmatching brackets into daily life as well. It can mean that you're not balanced. Maybe you feel out of control, or unorganized. Maybe you'd like your computer to do more for you. And maybe you're out of sorts because you're not sure just how to make that happen.

When your brackets don't match, something is wrong somewhere and you're having a hard time finding what's wrong exactly.

Learning technology is much the same way. The pieces can cause problems. But when everything fits together correctly, everything becomes clearer and you enjoy using your computer and your other devices.

That's what Matching Brackets is all about: helping Linux make sense.
